Living into the Maverick, what would we do, say, create, share, or seek to experience if we were free from our branding of the past, living without fear of judgement?
The word Maverick has 2 meanings and yet they are the same…
- Maverick: An unorthodox or independent-minded person.
- Maverick: An unbranded calf or yearling.
I now understand this second definition much more intimately after living on a farm the past 4 years. On a farm, livestock have no personal history, no lineage with which to document where they come from if they are unbranded.
Living our life free of a personal history, that many of us have used to define ourselves, also keeps us free from the bondage of being bound by invisible restraints. Self-imposed shackles such as mental constructs, definitions, labels, diagnoses, family histories, and all manner of physical and mental forms no longer serving who we are in this moment and where we are headed.
I gaze out my window right now as I write, it’s too perfect… I see about two dozen horses roaming free in the far back pasture. Watching them gallop spraying the freshly fallen snow as they run. I’ve often seen the image of a wild horse, completely free, in my waking as well as dream time. This has been a particularly challenging year, moving through my 50th year, and having awarenesses and epiphanies as well as a new found moxie and courage I didn’t know existed in younger versions of myself. Fearless as I look ahead, fondness as I look behind, focused in the present.
We all grew up with family histories, a brand that bound us to people we may or may not have consciously chosen to spend our time with. We are surrounded by people who think they know who we are and at times their version wins over our own through myriad layers of conformity, loss of presence, and a search to have needs met. Needs for love, approval, and appreciation.
What we all want is freedom. Not freedom from our lives but freedom IN our lives. I’ve been living into the “Maverick” this year and it’s an ongoing transformative process. To be free of personal history, to be free of what we fear, to be free of the bondage of what others may or may not think of us, to be free… free of a personal history. A Maverick. A trailblazer. Unbranded. Coming full circle to accomplish what we came here to do. Born free, stripped bare to ourselves. Unmarked, open, ready for the adventure.
Will you join me? I would love if you would walk the journey with me in my Maverick Mastery weekly webinar and group coaching series, for those of us ready to break fee and live the life we came to live before we go.
